Glossary
Carrier module
Basic module that is required to configure the distributed I/O based on the ET 200SP HA.
Carrier modules connect the plugged modules (interface modules or I/O modules) to the
backplane bus.
• Carrier module for interface module: Slots for IMs (depending on the carrier module: 1 or 2)
• Carrier module for I/O modules: make slots available for I/O modules with plugged terminal
blocks.
– Terminal block, light gray
– Terminal block, dark gray
– Terminal block, black
Channel fault
Channel-specific fault, such as a wire break or short circuit.
Channel group
Channels of an I/O module are grouped together in a channel group. Some parameters can only
be assigned to channel groups and not individual channels.
Channel number
The inputs and outputs of an I/O module are uniquely identified via the channel numbers and
assigned channel-specific diagnostic messages.
Configuration
Systematic arrangement of the individual modules.
Configuration control
Function that enables flexible adaptation of the actual configuration based on a defined
maximum configuration via the user program. Input, output and diagnostic addresses remain
unchanged.
Connecting to common potential
Configuring a new potential group for which a new infeed is set up for the supply voltage.
Connector
Physical connection between device and cable.
