The ATM address has 20 bytes, which are divided into a 13-byte Network
Prefix and a 7-byte User Part. These are further divided into fields shown
in Table 17.

Authority Format Identifier — identifies one of three formats of the ATM

Routing Domain — identifies a unique Routing Domain within the ATM

Area — identifies a unique area within the Routing Domain

End Station Identifier — identifies a unique device within the specified
network

Selector Field — still under consideration by the ATM Forum
The AFI and AFI-specific fields should be the same. The default value is
47.00.00.00.00.00.3C.00.00, but the network manager can configure
these fields to a different value as long as the same value is used in all the
nodes. The fields RD and AREA are not fixed by the system and are
available for definition by the operator as shown in Figure 12.
