in a Headquarters Network
Regional and Branch Offices The networks shown in Figure 7 are
installed in a regional and branch office of the enterprise.
The network core in the basement data center of the regional office
consists of two CoreBuilder 7000 ATM switches redundantly connected
to two servers and is tailored to support the lower bandwidth
requirements.
The Corebuilder 7000 ATM switch on the first floor supports a secondary
backbone to the SuperStack II 2700 switch edge devices and a primary
backbone down to the network core.
The third floor has a legacy Token Ring network connected to the ATM
backbone through the SuperStack II 2000 TR switch edge device. In this
network, the CoreBuilder 7000 ATM switch provides LANE services that
support both Ethernet and Token Ring LANs.
The CoreBuilder 7000 ATM switches in the branch office serve as edge
devices; no core is required for this low-bandwidth network.
All of the networks in the enterprise accommodate voice, video and data.
Voice telephones interface with the network through Access Builder
units, video interfaces through the PC end units and the data from the
servers.
