ILMI Version
ILMI versions 3.0, 3.1, and 4.0 are available on the CoreBuilder 7000
family ATM switch. The ILMI version is selected to be ILMI 4.0 if both
devices support ILMI 4.0 protocol, otherwise it will be set to ILMI 3.1.
If you manually set the ILMI version to ILMI 3.1 or ILMI 3.0, the peer side
will also run ILMI 3.1. This will cause both sides to skip auto-discovery and
use manual discovery.
UNI Signaling Version
Both Version 3.0, Version 3.1, and Version 4.0 of UNI are available on the
CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM switch. The UNI version is selected to be
the lowest version that both IMEs can work with according to the
following order where c is the highest:
a UNI 3.0
b UNI 3.1
c UNI 4.0
VPI/VCI Range
The greatest common VPI/VCI range is determined.
For examples, see "Display Auto-Configuration Results" on page 140 in
the Management Guide.
Influencing Auto-Configuration via LMA—UNI Version
You can use LMA to influence the result of the auto-configuration
process as in the following example of configuring the UNI version.
Normally, auto-configuration acts to configure the lowest common UNI
version on adjacent ports, as explained above. However, you can use LMA
to cause a higher UNI version to be configured on a port.
Assume that switch A is configured to UNI 4.0 and switch B to UNI 3.1:
1 Initially, the value UNI 4.0 is written in flash A and the value UNI 3.1 in
flash B. On startup, these are set as current values. Auto-configuration
then acts to reconfigure the UNI version in switch A to UNI 3.1, the
minimum common value. The flash A value remains UNI 4.0.
2 Switch B is reset by LMA to UNI 4.0 and LMA writes it to flash B (see
"Update Signaling Protocol Version" on page 205 in the Management
Guide).
