Building LAN Emulation ATM Networks
A LAN Emulation network provides the ability to run network applications
over ATM and maintain the legacy LANs' well-established environment.
The following network devices support LAN Emulation:
A CoreBuilder 7000 ATM family switch provides the LAN Emulation
services LES and LECS.
An ATM edge device:
SuperStack II Switch 2700 unit — for Ethernet
SuperStack II Switch 2000 — for Token Ring
SuperStack II Switch 2500 — for FDDI converts ATM to LAN and
supports multiple LAN Emulation Clients.
An ATM adapter (for example, a ATMLink S-Bus 155) supports a LAN
Emulation Client for servers or end stations. To support more than one
Emulated LAN a client can have multiple adapters or multiple LECs.
Router with ATM downlink — the ATM connection supports multiple
LAN Emulation clients (NETBuilder II).
A CoreBuilder 2500 — supports FDDI rings

flexibility of the CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM switches in a large-scale
enterprise network consisting of headquarters offices, regional offices
and branch offices. The following features of the CoreBuilder 7000 are
shown:
Form redundant network core to fit required bandwidth
Serve as edge device
Support Ethernet and Token Ring LANs simultaneously
Serve as Fast Ethernet switch
Provide high-density switched Ethernet
Consolidate voice, video and data into single low-cost transmission
Establish LANE services between networks over WAN VP switch.
