Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI and VLT (Virtual LAN Trunk) so that VLANs can
include these types of LANs.
Through the Integrated Fast Setup facility of the CoreBuilder 7000 family
ATM switch, VLANs can be set up "chassis-wide". Each port of each
interface card installed in the CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM switch is
assigned to a VLAN in one continuous session.
For more information about setting up VLANs refer the CoreBuilder 7000
Family ATM Switches Installation and Startup Guide.
Admin and Default
Two special purpose ATM-based VLANs are established automatically by
VLANs
the system, the Network Administration VLAN and the Default VLAN.
The Network Administration VLAN
To control the ATM Network and receive status information from it, the
Transcend ATMVLAN Manager requires SNMP connectivity to each edge
device in the network at all times. In order to efficiently implement this
connectivity in a way that is not affected by changes in the network, a
special VLAN ("admin" VLAN) is dedicated in the edge device to this task.
In the CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM switch, one admin VLAN serves all
interface cards installed in the entire box.
When you use the single-IP option, you do not need to establish an
"admin" VLAN for each card in the chassis (see "7X00 Admin vLAN" on
page 200).
The Default VLAN
When an ATM edge device is initialized, a single VLAN called the default
VLAN is created automatically and all ports of the device are assigned to
it.
Often the admin VLAN is also used as the default VLAN. All ports are
initially assigned to the admin VLAN to ensure that they have connectivity
to the Network. The Network Administrator can then move them to
another VLAN, remembering that at least one port must remain in the
admin VLAN if the device is to be reached for management purposes.
