established as the active LECS by associating its address with the
"well-known" address. Then, a LEC attempting to establish a connection
to the LECS via the well-known address is redirected to establish a
connection to the newly-activated LECS.
Multiple Active LECS in a Large Network
For a large network, you can reduce signaling traffic by having more than
one LECS active in the network at the same time. Then, a LEC requesting
to join a specific ELAN can do it through the nearest active LECS.
Divide the network into parts A, B, C, and so on. Assign LECS 1 to be
active for part A of the network by putting LECS 1 first in the LECS-order
database for all switches in part A; assign LECS 2 to be active for part B
by putting LECS 2 first in the LECS-order database for all switches in part
B, and so on.
For this arrangement to work, all LECS in the network must be configured
with exactly the same ELAN topology database, as discussed below.
LMA Commands
To display the LECS-order database by LMA "Display LECS Redundancy"
on page 260 in the Management Guide. To enter a LECS into the
LECS-order database "Add LECS to LECS-Order Database" on page 261
in the Management Guide.
LES Redundancy
When a network has more than one CoreBuilder 7000 family ATM

switch, you can create redundant LESs for an ELAN. When you designate
the ELAN Topology
a primary LES in a switch to be the active LES for an ELAN, you can

designate a secondary LES in another switch to be the backup or
redundant LES for the ELAN. In case the switch containing the active LES
of an ELAN should fail, the secondary LES is activated; the ELAN
continues to operate and the interrupted calls are re-established.
You plan out LES redundancy for an ELAN by identifying a primary and
secondary LES, each of which could serve as an active LES for that ELAN.
The primary LES has the highest priority to be the active LES for that
ELAN.
When you set up the network, you enter the primary and secondary
LESes in the topology database of the LECS of each switch in which they
are enabled, using either the LMA or, preferably, the Transcend Enterprise
Manager application. This way, each LECS has the same information
