Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a standard
management protocol for multi-vendor IP networks. Each CoreBuilder
7000 family ATM switch has one SNMP agent that monitors objects on
the CoreBuilder 7000 chassis and reports data to a network management
system.
This SNMP agent, which resides on the switch card, represents the
CoreBuilder 7X00 interface cards which are installed in the CoreBuilder
7000 chassis. Using a master/sub-agent architecture, sub-agents in each
of the CoreBuilder 7X00 interface cards are automatically registered with
the master agent in the switch card. The MIB in the switch module
represents the information stored in the MIBs of each of the CoreBuilder
7000 interface cards. Thus all chassis MIB information can be accessed in
one place and viewed in a unified way.
MIB Browsing
Table 46, which was produced by a MIB browser, shows part of the
information available in the MIB-II interface table, resident in the switch
card. It represents a CoreBuilder 7000 switch with a 7200 and 7600 card
installed. As mentioned, the information for the installed interface cards
appears in one interface table. This is a very convenient way for a
network manager to access all chassis information in one location.
