vac‑chip™ Assembly
The vac-chip assembly is comprised of the spraychip flange and the vac-chip flange. The
assembly is used to mount the vac-chip interface and parts of the ion optics to the source,
filter, and detector (SFD) assembly. The spraychip and vac-chip flanges, once assembled
together, generally remain so unless extensive cleaning is required.
The spraychip flange allows the connection of the microspray source to the SFD assembly
and provides the nebulizer gas connection to the spray source.
NOTICE
To fit the spraychip and vac-chip flanges together, refer to Spraychip Flange on page 60.
vac‑chip
Follow the procedure below in the event that the vac-chip has to be replaced or removed.
Please refer to Figure 21 when following this procedure.
Remove the vac‑chip
1. Turn off any sample or mobile phase pumps, including the MiDas, to stop all flow to the
spraychip.
● If the VERITY 1910 MS Detector is under vacuum, make sure that the instrument is not
collecting data.
2. Place the VERITY 1910 MS Detector into standby mode, if necessary.
3. Vent the system before removing the vac-chip assembly from the
VERITY 1910 MS Detector. Refer to Vent on page 45.
4. open the door to 90°.
5. Remove the split flow interface (SFI) from the source, filter, and detector assembly (SFD).
Refer to Remove the Split Flow Interface on page 64.
6. Loosen the four M4 thumbscrews securing the vac-chip assembly in an alternating
criss-cross pattern.
7. Remove the four M4 thumbscrews.
8. Gently pull the vac-chip assembly away from the
source, filter, and detector assembly (SFD), using the dowels as guides.
9. Fit the SFD cover plate to the VERITY 1910 MS Detector.

Always wear powder‑free gloves when handling all components of the vac‑chip assembly.
Fingerprint residues can cause problems with the operation of these devices.
