The Printhead
The Printhead assembly consists of a column of 384 heater elements or dots oriented
perpendicular to the direction of paper travel, and a 384 stage shift register which serves as a
data holding buffer for one column of dots to be printed. Each dot has its own driver circuit.
The darkness of printing is controlled by the width of the strobe applied to each dot to be
turned on and the temperature of the printhead.
The Paper Drive Motor
The paper drive motor is a stepping motor, with coil currents regulated by integrated
circuit motor drivers. The speed of paper motion and the resolution is controlled by the
microcontroller on the digital board via the motor control circuits on the power supply board.
