3.2.2 Remedies for Paper Jam Errors

Check for problems in the order listed in Table 3-4 to troubleshoot paper jam errors when they occur constantly during paper feeding or after turning
on the printer.
NOTE: Check the symptoms described under "Problem"; if one of them pertains to your printer, try the action described under "Solution." If
you have a different problem, proceed to the next step.

Problem
1
The paper does not eject completely and the
Paper Out light flashes.
2
When you turn on the printer, the paper feed
roller rotates for about 10 seconds and the
Paper Out light flashes.
3
Paper fails to load fully (the paper loads to the
paper feed roller, but not the front of the paper
guide). If the problem happens repeatedly, the
control panel indicates a fatal error.
Table 3-2. Remedies for Paper Out Error (continued)
Hand-rotate the shaft in the ASF in the paper feed direction and check if the hopper springs back every time you rotate
the shaft.
NOTE: Even though the ASF home position sensor is operating correctly and detecting the home position, if the hopper
is not operating at the correct timing for paper feeding, paper will not load. (If the ASF home position sensor detects
the ASF home position in the paper feed sequence, the control panel lights indicate a fatal error.) You may need to
reassemble or replace the ASF.
Table 3-3. Remedies for Paper Jam Errors
The paper may be too long for the printer. Explain to the user that a paper jam error occurs if the paper is longer than the
printer's specifications.
Check to see if paper dust or any other material is pushing up the tip of the
paper end sensor actuator. If so, remove it. Viewing the paper end sensor
from the front, check that the actuator is in the correct position; the actuator
should fall into the cutout when no paper is loaded.
If this does not work, follow steps 2 and 3 in Section 3.2.1 to check the
condition of the sensor.
If you removed the ASF hopper release cams, make sure they're
correctly oriented with the loading rollers, as shown below.
Also make sure that the hole in the ASF sensor wheel points the
same direction as the hopper release cams (toward the left as shown
above).
