4.2.14 Removing the Carriage Assembly

Remove the following:
" Upper case as described
page 40
" Timing belt as described in step 1 to in step 3 in
the Carriage Motor Assembly"
1. Remove the compression spring securing the carriage encoder
strip to the hook, as shown below, then carefully remove the
encoder strip.

C A U T I O N
Do not touch the surface of the carriage encoder strip with
your bare hands. Dirt, oils, or other damage to the strip
can cause the carriage to move incorrectly.
2. Using tweezers, remove the compression spring from the pulley
tensioning mechanism, as shown below.

3. Slide the pulley to the right slightly and pull it forward to remove it,
along with the timing belt.
4. Pull the white plastic roller and timing belt out of the pulley, as
shown below.

5. Position the platen gap lever so you can remove its hooks through
the cutouts in the right side of the frame, as shown below. Then
release the hooks and remove the platen gap lever.
C A U T I O N
An ink stopper sheet is attached to the PG lever support
by adhesive. being careful not to detach it.
