3.2.3 Remedies for Low Ink or Ink Out Errors

Check for problems in the order listed in Table 3-5 when the black or
color Ink Out lights flash or come on, even if you've already replaced
the ink cartridges with new ones.
NOTE: Check the symptoms described under "Problem"; if one
of them pertains to your printer, try the action described
under "Solution." If you have a different problem,
proceed to the next step.

1 Ink Low or Ink Out Make sure the ink cartridges are properly installed.

2 Make sure the yellow tape seal was removed from
the top of each ink cartridge during installation. (If
not, replace the cartridges with new ones.)
3 Check the level of remaining ink using the printer
driver software.
4 Replace the ink cartridges with new ones. If the
problem continues, the printhead ribbon cables may
be loose. Check their connections at both the
printhead and the main board.
5 The printhead IC may be defective. Replace the
printhead.
6 Check that the IC on the ink cartridge isn't missing
or damaged. Replace it if necessary.
7 If the printhead is okay, the main board may be
defective. Replace the main board.
Solution

3.2.4 Remedy for a Maintenance Error

When the printer displays a maintenance error, the waste ink pads are
full and the printer disables all operations, except for the panel
operation that clears the error.
Replace the waste ink pads (see
page 45), then clear the error as described below.

1 Hold down the Load/Eject and Cleaning buttons
while turning on the printer.
2 While the Paper Out light is blinking, press and
hold the Cleaning button for ten seconds.

3.2.5 Remedies for a Fatal Error

A fatal error can be caused by any of the following:
! The printer does not detect the carriage in the home position
! The printer does not detect signals from the linear encoder sensor
! The ASF sensor does not detect the ASF home position
! The tabs supporting the carriage encoder sensor have broken.
Check for causes in the order listed in
