Table 3-10. If Cleaning Does Not Improve Print Quality
Unlike the previous products, the EPSON Stylus Photo 870/1270 is not equipped with CL3 (dummy cleaning). You can
repeat cleaning every time you press the Cleaning button without running a self-test or printing anything.
To perform the initial ink charge:
1. Using the adjustment program, reset the initial ink charge flag in the EEPROM (see
details).
2. Turn the printer off and then back on.
Make sure to disconnect the AC power cord first. Then remove
the upper case and check if the cables are properly connected to
CN8 and CN9 on the main board. Even if they are not visibly
loose, disconnect and then reconnect them, and then run a
printer check.
Remove the top cover to view the cap mechanism. (If necessary,
you may need to remove the printer mechanism and release the
carriage lock to move the carriage unit away from the home
position.)
Then examine the capping mechanism for foreign matter or signs
of damage, especially the rubber seal around the edge.
If the tension spring in the cap assembly comes off, its sealing ability is
compromised because it does not fit the surface of the printhead. Make sure
the tension spring is securely attached as shown.
