5.1 Overview

After you remove or replace parts in the Stylus Photo 870/1270, you
need to make certain adjustments, as described below. When making
more than one adjustment, perform them in the order as listed.
NOTE: Some of the adjustments require using the adjustment
program. See
"Using the Adjustment Program"
page 73.

5.2 Mechanical Adjustments

To perform the Parallelism Adjustment, you need a 1.14 mm thickness
gauge. You may also want to use a magnifying glass for the backlash
adjustment.

5.2.1 Parallelism Adjustment

The platen gap (parallelism) adjustment ensures that the printhead
remains the proper distance from the paper. Make the adjustment
when:
! You've loosened or adjusted a parallelism adjustment bushing
! You've removed or replaced the carriage assembly or carriage
guide shaft

perform this adjustment.

Do not use a bent thickness gauge, or it could damage
the printhead. Before performing the adjustment, clean
the thickness gauge with alcohol to remove any dirt or
grease.
1. Remove the upper case as described in

2. Release the carriage lock lever, and slide the carriage by hand to
the center of the printer.
C A U T I O N
In the following steps, move the carriage only by pulling
on the carriage timing belt. Don't hold onto the carriage
while moving it, or the adjustment won't be accurate.
