iSER iSCSI Extensions for RDMA (iSER) is an extension of the data
transfer model of iSCSI, a storage networking standard for TCP/
IP. It uses the iSCSI components while taking the advantage of
the RDMA protocol suite.
Metadata Information about a data file, including attributes such as
filename, location in storage, size, and when it was created.
Metadata Controller (MDC) A key computer server in a StorNext
system that performs many critical functions, including
managing metadata, running file system processes, creating
and managing the journal, and performing allocation and
buffering tasks. It is a type of SAN client because it has a direct,
high-speed Fibre Channel or iSCSI connection to the SAN
storage. The Xcellis Workflow Director is an example of an MDC.

NAS Client A type of StorNext user requiring SMB and NFS protocol
access to the SAN storage. NAS clients access SAN storage
indirectly through a NAS gateway rather than being a direct
client of the SAN storage. (see DLC Client, Gateway, NFS, SAN

NVMe Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) is an interface designed fr
flash-based storage devices, such as SSD drives. NVMe reduces I/
O overhead and includes performance improvements, as
compared to previous logical-device interfaces.
RDMA Remote direct memory access (RDMA) enables more direct data
movement in and out of a server by implementing a transport
protocol in the network interface card (NIC) hardware.
RoCE (RDMA over Converged Ethernet) is a network protocol that
allows remote direct memory access (RDMA) over an Ethernet
network. There are two RoCE versions: RoCE v1 and RoCE v2.
RoCE v1 is an Ethernet link layer protocol and hence allows
communication between any two hosts in the same Ethernet
broadcast domain. RoCE v2 is an Internet layer protocol which
