5.2.12 Assembling and Installing the Backup Batteries
Identify all required parts as follows:
Two batteries – 12 Ah (small) or 27 Ah (large)
One positive cable, one negative cable and one cable with bayonet style fuse holder
Fitting kit of spade terminals, nuts, bolts and washers (used with 27 Ah batteries only)
Avoid shorting the battery terminals with metal or conductive objects, especially when connecting the cables or when
It is advisable to remove the fuse before connecting the fused cable to the batteries, and to refit it only when all
For the large batteries only, fit a supplied spade terminal to each battery terminal using the supplied fixings. The correct
sequence for the fixings is – bolt, flat washer, battery terminal, spade terminal, flat washer, spring washer, nut, as shown
below.
Note: Ensure that the terminals are positioned vertically and angled inwards or the cables will not fit.
The 12 Ah batteries fit into the offset mounting tray slots with the terminals to the front, while the 27 Ah batteries may require
you to first remove the 12 Ah mounting tray (3 screws at the front and 2 at the back) before fitting the batteries with the
terminals facing each other. Always fit the right hand battery first to avoid blocking access.
Normally the door opens to the left and the 27 Ah batteries are therefore positioned to the far right to avoid contact with the
door hinge. However the door hinge can be changed to open to the right, in which case the 27 Ah batteries must be
positioned to the far left instead.
1.
Ensure that the Battery Isolator switch is correctly connected to the TPPR DC-UPS and is switched Off (Fig 48).
2.
Ensure that the securing strap is open and held clear of the battery area.
3.
Insert the first battery in the right-hand slot (12 Ah) or far right (27Ah).
4.
Insert the second battery to the left of the first battery, observing the correct terminal orientation (see pictures
below).
