Testing CDI Unit Output
NOTE: Procedures designated ''A'' are for
the 5000; procedures designated ''B'' are
for the 6000.
1.
Disconnect the double-wire plug from the
COi unit to the ignition coil.
2.
A. Using the wire adapter
harness,
con-
nect the yellow tester lead to the
white/blue lead in the double-wire plug;
connect the red tester lead to the brown
lead in the double-wire plug.
B.
Using the
wir~
adapter
harness,
con-
nect the yellow tester lead to the
white/blue lead in the double-wire plug;
connect the red tester lead to the black
lead in the double-wire plug.
3.
A.
Set the tester on 60 HIGH scale. Crank
the engine over quickly. If the tester
light illuminates, COi unit output is
satisfactory. This pinpoints the ignition
cuil, spark plugs, or spark-plug caps as
being defective if ignition coil output
was not satisfactory. Test 3 times for
conclusive results. Before replacing the
ignition coil (if the ignition coil seems
to be the problem), make sure its con-
nections are not corroded or loose. If
the tester light fails to
illuminate,
pro-
ceed to Testing Charge/Trigger Coil
Output (5000).

B. Set the tester on 65 HIGH scale. Crank
the engine over quickly. If the tester
light illuminates, CDI unit output is
satisfactory. This pinpoints the ignition
coil, spark plugs, or spark-plug caps as
being defective if ignition coil output
was not satisfactory. Test 3
times.
