Removing
1. Remove the four bolts and lock washers
securing recoil assembly to the magneto
case (magneto-case cover on the 6000).

CAUTION
Before removing last bolt, grasp the recoil to pre-
vent a sudden retraction of the recoil .

2. Tie a slipknot in the recoil rope below the
console and al low the rope to slowly re-
tract against the recoil case.
3. Remove the knot at the starter handle; then
thread rope through the recoil bushing in
the console.

Cl amp th e reco il in a vise.
2.
Rotate the reco il reel co unterclockw ise un-
til th e notc h of th e reel is near th e reco il
rope guide in the case. Guide the ro pe into
the not ch and slowly al low t he reel to re-
tract unt il all reco il spring tension is releas-
ed.
3. While exerting downward pressure on the
dri ve plate, remove th e nut, lock washer,
and washer.
4. Sl owl y re lease th e drive plate and lift the
plate free of the reel.

5. Remove the spring and the return spring .
Account for the washer.
6. Remove the three pawl springs; then re-
move the three pawls.
7. Carefully lift the recoil reel free of case
making sure the recoil spring does not ac-
cidentally disengage from the recoil case.
8. Remove the recoil spring from the recoil
case by lifting the spring end up and out.
Hold remainder of recoil spring with
thumbs and alternately release each thumb
to allow the recoil spring to gradually
release from the recoil case.
