3. Using a spanner wrench , remove the nut
and lock washer securing the flywheel. Ac-
count for the washer.

Using a spanner wrench, remove the three
bolts and lock washers securing the starter
pu lley and remove the pulley; then using a
screwdriver, carefully pry the fan-belt drive
pulley from its seated positi on on the
flywhee l. Remove the pulley.

5. Using the Arctic Flywheel Puller (p/n
3012-666), remove the flywheel from the
crankshaft by tightening the puller bolt,
striking the head of the puller bolt with a
brass hammer, and tightening again.
Repeat procedure until the flywheel is free.
Account for the key in the end of the
crankshaft.
NOTE: If the flywheel will not clear the
water pump pulley, either remove the
water pump pulley or loosen the water pump
bolts and adjust the pump to attain adequate
clearance.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the crankshaft, thread a pro-
tective cap onto the crankshaft. The puller must bot-
tom on the cap and not on the crankshaft. Also, do
not thread puller bolts more than 12.7 mm (1/2 in.) in-
to the flywheel. Damage to the coils may resuh.

NOTE: A protective cap can be made by
welding a 3 mm (1/8 in.) plate on one side
of a spare flywheel nut.
NOTE: To ensure the cleanliness of the
flywheel magnets, place the flywheel
(with the magnets facing upward) on a clean
bench.
6. Seri be a Ii ne on the stator plate and
magneto case; then remove the two
screws, lock washers, and washers secur-
ing the stator plate. Remove the wiring
harness screw and clamp. Remove the two
bolts and washers securing the CDI unit;
then remove the CDI unit .
