12. Apply a thin coat of silicone sealer to both
sides of each cylinder-base gasket; then
in-
stall each gasket onto a cylinder making
sure each gasket aligns with crankcase
transfer passages.
13. Rotate each piston ring until the ring end is
properly positioned over its ring keeper;
then apply oil to the piston assemblies and
cylinder bores. Remove the rubber bands
from the connecting rods

14. In turn on each cylinder, place a
piston
holder (or suitable substitute) beneath the
piston skirt and square the piston in
respect to the crankcase; then using a ring
compressor or the fingers, compress the
rings and slide the cylinder over the piston.
Remove the piston holder and seat the
cylinder firmly onto the crankcase.

Install the eight cylinder-base nuts, lock
washers, and washers; then temporarily in-
stall the exhaust manifold and secure to
''square'' the cylinders. Tighten the
cylinder-base nuts in three steps to 3.0-4.0
kg-m (22-29 ft-lb) using a crisscross pattern.
Remove exhaust manifold.

16. Place each head w/gasket into position and
instal I the 12 nuts. Tighten to 1.8-2.2
kg-m
(13-16
ft-lb) using the torque pattern
shown.

17. Install the
spark
sp
lugs
and tighten
to
2.5-3.0
kg-m (18-22 ft-lb).
18. Test the
engine for air
leaks
using the
following
procedure:
a.
Install two intake-flang
e
port plugs and
tighten
the
flange
clamps secure
ly.
b.
Place
a rubber plug and
cover on
each
exhaust port and secure
.
c.
Connect
a tester pump
to
the
impulse
fitting
on
the
crankcase;
then
pressurize the
crankcase
to 12
lb and
close
the
valve .
