Install VMware Tools

4 Name the VM <<mgmt_vm_name>>.
5 Place it on the <<mgmt_server_1_hostname>>-localdatastore.
6 Right-click the new VM and click Open Console.
7 Power on the VM. The Windows ISO that you mounted should automatically boot.
8 Mount the ISO for Microsoft Windows Server 2012.
Mount the ISO in the virtual CD/DVD ROM drive of the Management VM.
9 Confirm or configure the options presented in the window, and click Next.
10 Click Install Now.
11 Enter the license key and click Next.
12 Select Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard (Server with a GUI) and click Next.
13 Review and accept the license terms. Click Next.
14 Click Custom (advanced) to install a new copy of Windows.
15 Click Next to install Windows on the discovered virtual disk.
Installation begins. At the completion of installation, the VM restarts.
16 After the restart, when the VM prompts you to create a new administrator password, click OK, and then
type <<mgmt_vm_administrator_password>> into the password fields.
17 Press Enter, set the password, and log in to the server.
18 Click OK again when prompted.
Install VMware Tools
Procedure
1 Navigate back to the vCenter Web Client tab.
2 Right-click <<mgmt_vm_name>> and select All vCenter Actions > Guest OS > Install VMware Tools.
3 Click Mount.
4 Navigate back to the VM Console.
5 Click Run setup64.exe.
6 Click Next to begin the VMware tools installation wizard.
7 Click Next to choose a typical installation.
8 Click Install to begin the installation.
9 Click OK to finish the installation.
10 Click Yes to restart the VM.

Enable the Desktop Experience Role

Procedure
1 Open Server Manager and click Manage > Add Roles and Features.
2 Click Next > on the Before You Begin page.
3 Select Role-based or feature-based installation and click Next >.
4 Select your server name from the pool and click Next >.
5 Click Next > on the Server Roles page.
6 Scroll down and select the User Interfaces and Infrastructure checkbox and all of the features beneath
it.
7 Click Install, accept or follow any prompts given, and then reboot if prompted.
