Starthilfe

(Anschlüsse im Motorraum)
Springt der Motor einmal nicht an, weil die
Batterie z.B. im Winter oder nach längerer
Standzeit des Fahrzeugs entladen ist, kann
mit einem Starthilfekabel die Batterie eines
anderen Fahrzeuges zum Starten benutzt
werden. Folgende Hinweise sind dabei zu
beachten.
1. Beide Batterien müssen 12 Volt Spannung
haben. Die Kapazität (Ah) der stromgeben-
den Batterie darf nicht wesentlich unter der
Kapazität der entladenen Batterie liegen.

Emergency Starting

(Terminals in engine compartment)
Should the engine not start because the bat-
tery is flat e.g. in winter or after your Porsche
has stood for a long period, the battery from
another vehicle can be used with the aid of
jump leads. The following points should be
observed:
1. Both batteries must be 12 volt. The capac-
ity (Ah) of the battery supplying current
should not be significantly below that of the
discharged battery.
2. Es dürfen nur Starthilfekabel mit isolierten
Polzangen und ausreichend
Querschnitt verwendet werden. Angaben
des Kabelherstellers beachten.
3. Eine entladene Batterie kann bereits bei
-10° C gefrieren. Vor Anschluß der Star-
thilfekabel muß eine gefrorene Batterie un-
bedingt aufgetaut werden.
4. Zwischen den Fahrzeugen darf kein Kon-
takt bestehen, andernfalls könnte bereits
beim Verbinden der Pluspole
fließen.
Kurzschlußgefahr!
5. Die entladene Batterie muß ordnungsge-
mäß am Bordnetz angeklemmt sein. Nicht
über die Batterie beugen.
Verätzungsgefahr!
6. Zündquellen von der Batterie fernhalten,
z. B. offenes Licht, brennende Zigaretten
oder Kontaktfunken durch elektrischen An-
schluß.
Explosionsgefahr!
Achten Sie sorgfältig darauf, daß leitfähige
Schmuckstücke (Ringe, Kettchen, Uhrarm-
bänder) nicht mit stromführenden Teilen
am Fahrzeug in Berührung kommen. Ver-
letzungsgefahr durch Kurzschluß!
2. Only jump leads of adequate cross-section
and fitted with insulated crocodile clips
should be used. Follow the manufacturer's
instructions.
3. A discharged battery can freeze at -10° C.
A frozen battery must be thawed out be-
fore the jump leads are connected.
4. There should be no contact between the
two vehicles. Otherwise, current may flow
as soon as the positive terminals are con-
nected. Danger of short-circuit.
5. The discharged battery must be correctly
connected to its vehicle's electrical system.
Do not stoop over the battery. Danger of
contact with caustic fluid.
6. Protect the battery from sources of fire
such as naked flame, burning cigarettes or
sparks generated by electrical contact.
Danger of explosion.
Take great care to keep conductive articles
of jewelry (rings, chains, wrist watches)
well away from live parts of the car. Risk of
injury by short-circuit.
7. Connect the jump leads in the following
order:
First fix one end of the (+) lead to the
(+) clamp on the right at the front of the
engine compartment (arrowed). Then

(+) Klemme vorn rechts im Motorraum
(Pfeil), dann das andere Ende an den
(+) Pol der stromgebenden Batterie.
Ein Ende des (-) Kabels zuerst an den
(-) Pol der stromgebenden Batterie,
dann das andere Ende an den Motor-
block oder die Querstrebe im Motor-
raum (Pfeil).
Starthilfekabel so verlegen, daß sie
Strom nicht von drehenden Teilen im Motor-
raum erfaßt werden können.
8. Motor des stromgebenden Fahrzeuges mit
höherer Drehzahl laufen lassen.
9. Ein Startversuch mittels Starthilfekabel soll-
te nicht länger als 15 Sekunden dauern,
danach eine Wartezeit von mindestens
1 Minute einlegen.
10. Bei laufendem Motor beide Kabel genau
in umgekehrter Reihenfolge abnehmen.

Now clamp one end of the (-) lead to the
(-) terminal of the feed battery, then
connect the other end to the cylinder
block or the transverse strut in the en-
gine compartment (arrowed).
Route jump leads well away from rotat-
ing parts inside the engine compart-
ment.
8. Start the engine of the vehicle with the
supplying current. Run engine with higher
rpm.
9. Do not crank the engine for more than 15
seconds; wait for at least 1 minute before
repeating the attempt.
10.With the engine running, disconnect the
cables in the reverse order.
