Embedded Applications - StorView

One of the new features of the Wahoo2 FC-FC RAID Controller is its support for
embedded applications. StorView Storage Management software is available as an
option in the form of an embedded application module on the NexStor 493xF
and 494xF models.
Embedding StorView on the RAID Controller relieves the user from having to
install software and eliminates the possibility of device issues from one operating
system to another. Also it does not consume any host server CPU cyles or
memory with the exception of running the web browser, and is truly host OS
independent.
If you have one of the embedded application models (NexStor 4931F, 4932F,
4941F, or 4942F) you will see a 10/100Base-T ethernet connector and a set of four
LEDs on the left hand side of the RAID Controller face plate. The LEDs provide
status information about the embedded application controller and an ethernet
networking port that provides connectivity to your local area network.
Refer to the StorView Storage Management software guide for details on using the
StorView software.
SES Support
The FC-FC RAID Controller supports the SES (SCSI-3 Enclosure Services) Interface
protocol for monitoring enclosure environmental conditions. This is
accomplished through the SES Controller card.
SES protocol provides the interface specification for monitoring enclosure
component status and reporting environmental condition data on the enclosure's
temperature, fan status, power supply status, RAID controller, logical drive and
bus status.
When an error or condition occurs, the status change and condition is reported as
an event to the event logs and is communicated to the user via the enclosures'
LEDs and audible alarm, as well as external monitoring software. You may access
and monitor the health status through the VT-100 interface or StorView Storage
Management software. Refer to the appropriate software guide for more details.
The firmware can be updated through the RS-232 Service port. Refer to "Updating
SES Controller Card Firmware" on page 112.
