The host subsystem provides the routing and system management functions of the
router. The host subsystem consists of a Routing Engine and an adjacent control board.
To operate, each host subsystem functions as a unit; the Routing Engine requires the
corresponding control board, and vice versa.
NOTE:
You can install one or two host subsystems on the router. We
recommend that you install two host subsystems for redundant protection.
If you install only one host subsystem, we recommend that you install it in
slots

Each host subsystem has three LEDs, located on the upper right of the craft interface,
that display its status. In addition, there are LEDs on each Routing Engine and control
board.
