The Binder 120 has three modes of operation. This section describes
those modes.
When the Binder 120 is in the on-line mode, it is connected to a host
machine through the Interface Cable and the Interface Module. The
Receiving Plate of the Interface Module is fully extended and is
positioned on the Output Tray of the host machine.
When the operator selects Collated (and Finishing Accessories
Enabled for the Xerox 5800, 5895, and 5890) and presses the Start
button on the host machine, the host machine feeds the copy sets to
the Binder 120 Interface Module. The copy set is then fed to a wait
station in the Binder 120. To bind the copy set, the Binder 120
delivers the covers from the selected Cover Tray(s) to a cover wait
station and then inserts the copy set into the cover.
When the Binder 120 is in the stand-by mode, it is in an on-line
configuration and is connected to a host machine by the Interface
Cable only. The Receiving Plate is fully retracted, the Alignment
Bracket is in its storage position and the Interface Module is all the
way down so that it has no contact with the host machine.
Additionally, the Retainer or Spacer on the Output Tray of the host
machine is detached from the Damper Arm so that the Damper Arm
is at its normal operating position. The Binder 120 and the host
machine can now operate independently of each other.
The operator must use the Manual Feeder of the Binder 120 to insert
the copy sets into the Binder 120. While using the Manual Feeder,
the operator can use the Cover Trays for the cover source or can
insert the copy sets with the covers manually.
To switch back to the on-line mode, the operator must attach the
Retainer or Spacer to the Damper Arm, raise the Interface Module,
position the Alignment Bracket, and extend the Receiving Plate and
position it on the Output Tray of the host machine.
NOTE: If the host machine is not in use, you can manually operate
the Binder 120 without adjusting the Binder 120/host machine set-up.
The Interface Module, Alignment Bracket, Receiving Plate, and
Retainer or Spacer all can remain in place.
When the Binder 120 is in the off-line mode, it has no connection to a
host machine. It operates strictly as a stand-alone unit. To bind
copy sets, the operator must insert them manually into the Manual
Feeder of the Binder 120. While using the Manual Feeder, the
operator can use the Cover Trays for the cover source or can insert
the copy sets with the covers manually.
