Low Engine Oil Level W arning
Lamp
W ith the key in steering lock
position 2, the oil level w arning
lam p com es on and should go out
w hen the engine is running.
If the w arning lam p com es on with
the engine running and at ope ra t­
ing tem perature, the engine oil
level has dropped to app ro xi­
m ately the m inim um m ark on the
dipstick.
W hen this occurs, the w arning
lam p will first com e on interm it­
tently and then stay on if the oil
level drops further.
If no oil leaks are noted and there
is no loss in engine oil pressure,
c ontinue to drive to the nearest
service station w here the engine
oil should be topped to the ''fu ll"
m ark on the d ip stick w ith an
approved oil.
In addition to the w arning lamp,
the engine oil level should be
p erio d ica lly checked w ith the
dipstick, for exam ple during a fuel
stop, or before a long trip (see
Index).
Engine Oil C onsum ption
E ngine oil consum ption checks
should o nly be m ade after the
break-in period. D uring the break-
in period, higher oil consum ption
m ay be noticed and is norm al.
F requent d riving at high engine
speeds results in increased
consum ption.
Fuel C onsum ption Gauge
W hile driving, cu rren t fuel
co nsum ption is indicated in m iles
per gallon (mpg), or in Canada
liters per 100 kilom eters
(1/100 km).
W ith the engine sw itched off, the
needle reads " 0 " .
Due to system design, m axim um
co nsum ption is indicated at engine
idle speed.
