Wheels

Replace rim s or tires with the
sam e designation, m anufacturer
and type as show n on the original
part. See your authorized
M ercedes-B enz dealer for further
inform ation.
W arning!
Do not mix d iffe re n t tire con ­
struction typ es (i.e. radial,
bias, and bias-belted) on your
car because handling may be
adversely affected and may
result in loss of control.
See your authorized M ercedes-
Benz dealer for inform ation on
tested and recom m ended rim s
and tires for sum m er and w inter
operation. They can also offer
advice concerning tire service and
purchase.
Tire R ep lacem en t
Front tires should be replaced in
sets. Furtherm ore - in the event of
tire replacem ent - the spare
w heel, if possible, should be used
on the rear axle. Rim s and tires
m ust be of the sam e size and
type. For dim ensions, see
''Technical D ata".

W e recom m end that you break
in new tires for approx. 60 m iles
(100 km) at m oderate speed. It is
im perative that the wheel m ount­
ing bolts be retightened after ap­
prox. 6 0 -3 0 0 m iles (1 0 0 -5 0 0 km).
On new vehicles retightening is
carried out during the 1st inspec­
tion. R etightening is also neces­
sary w henever w heels are fitted,
e.g. when the spare wheel is used
for the first tim e or w hen a set of
w heels w ith M + S tires is installed.
T ightening torque:
110 ft.lb. (150 Nm).
For rim and tire specifications,
refer to ''Technical D ata" .
W arning!
W orn, old tires can cause
accidents. If the tire tread is
badly w orn, or if the tires have
sustained dam age, replace
them .
W hen replacing rim s, use only
g en uin e M erc ed e s-B en z w h eel
bolts (id en tified by M erced es
star) specified for the particu­
lar rim type. Failure to do so
can result in the bolts loosen­
ing and possibly an accident.
Rotating Wheels
The w heels can be rotated
a ccording to the degree of tire
w ear w hile retaining the same
direction of travel.
R otating, however, should be
carried out at a m ileage of 3000 -
6000 m iles (5000 - 10 000 km),
before the ch aracteristic tire wear
pattern (shoulder w ear on front
w heels and tread center w ear on
rear w heels) becom es visible, as
otherw ise the driving properties
deteriorate.
Important!
U nidirectional snow tires m ust
alw ays be m ounted with arrow on
tire sidew all pointing in direction of
vehicle forw ard m ovem ent.
Note:
T ho rou gh ly clean the inner side of
the w heels any tim e you rotate the
w heels or wash the vehicle
underside.
The use of retread tires is not
recom m ended. Retread tires may
adversely affect the handling
characte ristics and safety of the
vehicle.
Dented or bent rim s can cause tire
pressure loss and dam age to the
