Autom atic Transm ission
The autom atic transm ission
selects individual gears auto­
m atically, dependent upon
Selector lever position
A ccelerator position
V ehicle speed
Important!
W hen parking the car and before
w orking on the vehicle with the
engine running, firm ly depress the
parking brake pedal and shift the
selector lever into " P " .
Driving
The selector lever is auto m a tica lly
locked w hile in position " P " . To
m ove the selector lever out of
position " P " , the service brake
pedal m ust be firm ly depressed
before the shift lock w ill release.
S hift selector lever to the desired
position only w hen the engine is
idling norm ally and the service
brake is a pplied. Do not release
the brake until ready to drive. The
ve hicle m ay otherw ise start c ree p ­
ing when the selector lever is in
drive or reverse position.
W arning!
It is dangerous to shift the se­
lector lever out of "P" or "N "
if th e e n g in e speed is h igher
than idle speed. If your foo t is
not on th e brake pedal, the
car could a c c ele ra te quickly
forw ard or in reverse. You
could lose control of th e car
and hit som eo n e or som e­
thing. O nly shift into gear
w hen th e e n g in e is idling
norm ally and w hen your right
foot is firm ly on the brake
pedal.
A cc elera to r position
Partial throttle = early upshifting
= norm al acceleration
Full throttle = later upshifting =
rapid acceleration
Kickdow n (depressing the accel­
erator beyond full throttle) =
dow nshifting to a lower gear =
m axim um acceleration. Once the
desired speed is attained, ease up
on the a ccelerator - the tran sm is­
sion shifts up again.
