C harge Indicator Lam p
Should the charge indicator lam p
fail to com e on prior to starting
when the key is in steering lock
position 2 or should it fail to go out
after starting or during operation,
this indicates a fault w hich m ust
be repaired at an authorized
M ercedes-Benz dealer
im m ediately.
If the charge indicator lam p com es
on w hile the engine is running,
this m ay indicate that the poly-V-
belt has broken. Should this co n ­
dition occur, the poly-V -belt m ust
be replaced before co ntinuing to
operate the vehicle. O therw ise, the
engine w ill overheat due to an
inoperative w ater pum p w hich m ay
result in dam age to the engine.

Engine Oil Pressure G auge with
Oil Pressure W arning Lam p
W ith the key in steering lock
position 2, the oil pressure w arn ­
ing lam p com es on and should go
out when the engine is running.
The oil pressure at idle speed m ay
drop if the engine is at operating
tem perature. T his w ill not je o ­
pardize the e n g in e 's operational
reliability.
Pressure m ust, how ever, rise
im m ediately upon acceleration.
Note:
If the oil pressure w arning lam p
does not go out after starting the
engine or com es on w hile driving
and the oil pressure gauge needle
drops to " 0 " , then dam age to the
eng in e m ay occur with continued
operation. Turn off engine im m e­
diately and contact an authorized
M ercedes-B enz dealer. Do not
operate the car until the condition
is repaired.
There is no need for concern
should the oil pressure w arning
lam p light up briefly, (for exam ple,
in sharp turns or hard braking)
provided the lam p goes out
im m ediately. W e recom m end you
to drive to the nearest service
station w here the engine oil
should be topped to the ''fu ll"
m ark on the d ipstick with an
approved oil.
