Infant and Child R estraint
System s
W e recom m end that all infants
and children be restrained at all
tim es w hile the vehicle is in
m otion.
Important!
The use of infant or child re­
straints is required by law in all
50 states and all C anadian pro­
vinces.
Infants and sm all children should
be seated in an infant or child
restraint system , w hich is properly
secured by a lap belt or lap belt
portion of a lap-shoulder belt, and
that com plies with U.S. Federal
M otor V ehicle Safety Standard
213 and C anadian M otor V ehicle
Safety Standard 213.1. A state­
m ent by the child restraint m anu­
facturer of com pliance with this
standard can be found on the
instruction label on the restraint
and in the instruction m anual
provided with the restraint.
W hen using any infant or child
restraint system , be sure to ca re ­
fully read and follow all m anufac­
tu re r's instructions for installation
and use.
Warning!
A ccording to a cc id en t statis­
tics, child ren are s afer w hen
properly restrain ed in th e rear
seating positions than in the
fro nt seating positions.
R ear-facing child restraints
m ust not be used in th e fro nt
p assen g er seat. T h ey could be
struck by the airbag w hen it
in flates in a crash. If this
happens, a child in the
restraint could be seriously
injured.
Infants and sm all children
should never be held on the
lap w h ile th e v eh icle is in m o­
tion. D uring an a cc id en t they
would be alm ost im possible to
hold, and could be crushed
b etw een the adult and the
dashboard.
Infants and sm all children
should never share a seat belt
w ith an o th er occupant. During
an accident, th e y could be
crushed betw een th e occupant
and seat belt.
C hildren too big for child re­
straint system s should ride in
rear seats using regular seat
belts. Position shoulder belt
across chest and shoulder, not
fac e or neck. A booster seat
may be necessary to achieve
proper belt positioning.
W hen the child restraint is not
in use, rem ove it from th e car
or s ecure it w ith the seat belt
to prevent th e child restraint
from becom ing a p rojectile in
th e event o f an accident.
U.S.A. M odels only:
Since 1986 all U.S. child restraints
co m p ly with U.S. regulations
w ithout the use of a tether strap.
C anada M odels only:
T his ve hicle can be equipped with
tether anchorages for a top tether
strap. C onsult your authorized
M ercedes-B enz dealer for instal­
lation of these anchorages.

M otor V ehicle Safety Standard
210.1, child restraint tether
a nchorage hardw are is attached to
the tool kit located in the trunk.
