1) Satellite Access Stations (SAS)
The 3 SASs provide communication links/interfaces between each of the Inmarsat-4
satellites and the communication networks on earth.
Each SAS is owned and operated by INMARSAT, is equipped of an antenna for
communicating with the satellites, and is directly connected with PSTN, ISDN, and
the Internet.
2) Regional Hubs or Points of Presence (PoPs)
Regional Hubs of PoPs is the gateway for FB Global package data network.
The physical connection point within the Regional Hub is called Meet Me Point, and
access to this point is mainly allowed for the Inmarsat Distribution Partners (DP).
Access can also be allowed for the end users by making arrangements with the users'
DP.
Regional Hubs are owned / operated by the following third parties on behalf of
IMARSAT; Telx in NY, Telecity in Amsterdam, and HKCOLO in Hong Kong.
3) Network Operation Center (NOC)
NOC is located in the HQ of IMARSAT in London, and is responsible for the
network management of the overall IMARSAT FB network.
4) Satellite Control Center (SCC)
SCC is located in the HQ of IMARSAT in London, and is responsible for monitoring
the status, the attitude and the orbit status, and maintenance works for the
INMARSAT satellite.
5) Business Support Service (BSS)
BSS is located in the HQ of IMARSAT in London, and is responsible for all business
support systems required by the FB system, such as its billing data, fault management,
and handling customer care business.
