Diagnose PTT System Malfunction

Condition
Motor will not trim / tilt at
all (no up, no down).
Motor will not trim / tilt up. Defective PTT switch.
Motor will not trim / tilt
down.
PTT motor operates, but
no motor trim / tilt
movement.
Motor will not retain
selected trim and tilt
setting, creeps
downward.
PTT motor operates at
higher than normal speed,
or with high pitched
"squealing" sound. No
trim / tilt action.

Diagnostic Information and Procedures

Possible cause
Blown fuse for PTT system.
(Main: 30 A, PTT switch: 15 A, ECM: 30
A).
Defective PTT switch.
Open circuit between main fuse 30 A
and PTT relay.
Defective main relay.
Defective PTT relay.
Defective ECM and/or PTT system
circuit.
Loose or corroded battery cable
connection.
Open circuit between main fuse and
starter motor magnetic switch.
Defective PTT motor armature.
Defective PTT motor armature brushes. Replace.
Defective PTT pump.
