Explanation
The printhead has overheated.
The printer senses a ribbon, but
the Print Mode sub-menu is set
for Direct printing (printing that
does not require a ribbon).
The ribbon is not detected by
ribbon sensor. This is usually
caused by a break in the ribbon,
the ribbon has run out, or the
ribbon is not routed or installed
correctly.
Solution
1. Allow printhead to cool
down for 5 minutes, then
press CLEAR. Resume
printing.
2. A dirty printhead can inhibit
heat dissipation. Clean the
printhead.
3. Printhead heat may be set
too high for the media being
used. Reduce the setting of
the Print Intensity option in
the PRINTER CONTROL
menu, or via software
command. (Refer to the
User's Manual .)
4. Cycle power. If the message
appears, load the emulation
software again. (See
Appendix D.)
5. Cycle power. If the message
appears, replace the
printhead.
Remove the ribbon from the
printer if Direct Thermal media is
being used. In the PRINTER
CONTROL menu change the
Print Mode from Direct to
Transfer if Thermal Transfer
printing is being used (which
requires a ribbon).
If the ribbon is out, install a new
ribbon. If the ribbon broke,
reattach it to the ribbon take-up
tube core. Check that the ribbon
is installed correctly. (Refer to
the User's Manual .)
