Removal Procedures

Label And Ribbon Tube Assemblies

To replace the ribbon take-up tube, follow the steps below and refer to Figure
27.
1. Remove the top cover assembly (page 52).
2. Remove the ribbon take-up pulley (page 86).
3. Pull the ribbon take-up tube assembly (1) from the shaft support.
4. Insert the new ribbon take-up tube assembly (1) in the shaft support.
5. Install the take-up pulley (page 86).
To replace the ribbon supply tube, follow the steps below and refer to Figure
27.
1. Using a 5/64 inch hex key, loosen the ribbon supply collar set screw (2).
2. Remove the collar from the shaft and remove the ribbon supply tube
assembly (3).
3. Insert the new ribbon supply tube assembly (3) in the shaft support.
4. Hold the tube assembly against the shaft support and install the collar
with flange underneath the frame standoff.
5. Put a 0.005 inch shim between the collar and the shaft support housing.
6. Put a small dab of service-removable thread locking compound on the
collar set screw and torque the set screw to 11 inch-pounds. Remove the
shim.
To replace the label rewind tube assembly, follow the steps below and refer to
Figure 27.
1. Remove the power supply (page 56).
2. Remove the label rewind pulley (page 84).
3. Pull the label rewind tube assembly (4) from the shaft support.
4. Insert the new take-up tube assembly (4) on the shaft support.
5. Install the label rewind pulley (page 84).
6. Install the power supply (page 56).
Ribbon and Label Tube Torque Check and Adjustment:
1. To check the tube torques, put the clutch torque bit in the torque wrench.
Rotate a tube clockwise to check torque. Ribbon tube torque should be
17 ± 1inch-ounces. Label tube torque should be 23 ± 2 inch-ounces.
2. Rotate the tube until the set screw in the slot at the end of the tube is
visible.
3. Using a 3/32 inch hex key, loosen the set screw until the collar moves
freely.
4. Use the tube torque tool to push the collar in and out to increase or
decrease the torque setting.
5. Hold the collar in place and torque the set screw to 11 inch-pounds.
6. Check the new setting with torque tool. Rotate the tube clockwise while
checking the torque.
