Interface and Subinterface Management

Performance Logging

The Performance Logging area allows users to turn on performance data logging for a single interface.
All attributes in the Performance tab are logged when the object is placed into the Performance state.
The logged data is available to you through the Cisco EMF Performance Manager. Refer to the
Note
Cisco Element Management Framework User Guide for more information about the Performance
Manager.

Ethernet Statistics Registration

The Ethernet Statistics Registration area provides the following information:
Note
OL-4930-01
Start—Turns performance data logging on for this specific interface's attributes.
Stop—Turns performance data logging off for this specific interface's attributes.
Registration—Provides for ethernet interface statistic configuration according to the registration
state (Active or Inactive) and configuration (Register or Deregister).
register—When selected, causes the interface to register on the device. Upon committing the
'register' selection, the registration state for the interface changes to active. The active state
indicates that the EM controls the registration of the interface and will maintain the registration
state as active even if there are changes to the device.
deregister—When selected, causes the removal of the interface registration on the device. Upon
committing the 'deregister' selection, the registration state for the interface changes to inactive.
The inactive state indicates that the EM is not actively managing the registration state of the
interface and that the statistical data is not being gathered. The registration state of the interface
will automatically transfer back to active if the interface is registered for statistics on the device
by an external manager.
Commit—A confirmation dialog–box displays. Confirmation initiates the option selected from the
Registration option pull–down list.
Upon registering an interface, the following fields populate with data in the Packets/Octets Statistics
area on the Performance Tab: In Broadcast Pkts and In Multicast Pkts.
Upon registering an interface, the following fields populate with data in the Error Statistics area on
the Performance tab: In Broadcast Pkts, In Multicast Pkts, Collisions, Giants, Runts, and Misaligned
Pkts.
It is necessary to activate the RMON–MIB on Cat OS and hybrid devices in order to successfully
use the ethernet statistics registration feature. To configure a device properly, enter the following
command in a console window when logged into the device:
set snmp rmon enable
