Hot Replacement of Hot-Plug Boards

NOTE
Some full-length PCI cards have a plastic "handle" (board
extender) on one end. If the board you are installing has one,
you may need to remove the handle to make the board fit in
the HP NetServer.
To replace one PCI Hot Plug board with another while the server is running, you
must:
Turn off power to the slot through your server's NOS.
Physically remove the hot plug board and replace it with another.
This section tells how to physically remove the board and replace it with another
identical board. This procedure includes instructions for using the PCI Hot Plug
interface available to Windows NT 4.0 users. If you have a different NOS that
supports hot-plug, refer to your NOS documentation.
To perform a hot replacement of a PCI Hot Plug board:
1. Read the documentation that is included with the board. Note any
anti-static precautions or other special instructions.
2. Remove the PCI Hot Plug access panel from the top of the server. This
can be removed safely while the server is operating, and provides direct
access to the Hot Plug slots. (See Chapter 3 for details.)
There are two LEDs on the I/O baseboard next to each Hot Plug-capable
slot. One of them is green when the slot is powered. At this point, the slot
you will remove the board from should still be powered, and the green
power LED should be lit. Check and make sure.
3. Through your NOS, turn off power to the slot holding the board you must
replace.
If you are a Windows NT 4.0 user, choose Programs from the Start menu,
then select PCI Hot Plug from the Programs menu. A window like this
one appears:
