TP cable termination
The encoder Extension (Ext) port supports 1000Mbps (1000base T — Gigabit Ethernet),
half-duplex and full-duplex Ethernet connections. It is vital that your Ethernet cable be the
correct cable type and that it be properly terminated with the correct pinout. Ethernet links
use Category (CAT) 5e or CAT 6, unshielded twisted pair (UTP) or shielded twisted pair
(STP) cables, terminated with RJ-45 connectors. Ethernet cables are limited to a length of
328 feet (100 meters).
NOTES:
A CAT 5e cabling infrastructure is the minimum acceptable to support a NAV
system. Anything less is insufficient.
Do not stretch or bend cables. Transmission errors can occur.
The Ethernet cable must be terminated as a patch (straight-through) cable and must be
properly terminated in accordance with the TIA/EIA T568-B wiring standard (see figure 6).
