The general purpose outputs can be assigned to several different functions. The outputs will be active
low when the specified condition occurs. The duration of the outputs is user programmable except
where noted. There are two user programmable general purpose inputs and four dedicated GPI inputs.
Sections 3.7.9.2 to 3.7.9.5 describe the operation of the GPIO functions when the 8010TM-IRIG is not
operating the time rctl mode
When the 8010TM-IRIG is operating in the time rctl mode, the functions of these PARALLEL port pins
is reassigned to provide a method of inputting Remote Control contact closure information for encoding
into the user bits. The pinout of the D connector when the 8010TM-IRIG is in the Time RCTL mode is
shown in Table 2-4. Section 3.7.9.1 describes the operation of the time rctl mode.

3.7.9.1. Remote Control Mode

When the GEN MODE is set to time rctl the 8010TM-IRIG allows the user to encode remote control
contact closure information in the VITC user bits. This feature allows the user to use the six parallel
remote control inputs to set one of the six remote control user bit patterns. At the decoder end the
7721GPI-D D-VITC GPI Decoder module decodes the remote control user bits and outputs them on six
open collector outputs. When the 8010TM-IRIG is operated in this mode the normal functions of all the
parallel remote control inputs except VITC enable and Bypass are disabled.
In the time rctl mode, the inputs on the Parallel remote control port are used to control the remote
control user bits. When the GEN MODE is set to any of the other modes, then the inputs revert to their
normal functions as described in section 3.7.9.2. The parallel port pin designations in remote control
mode are shown in Table 3-3 below. Table 3-3 also shows the corresponding output pins of the
7721GPI-D decoder and the user bits that control them.
The parallel port is the default input source for time rctl mode. It will automatically be selected as the
input source whenever a rising or falling edge is detected on any of the five pins monitored by the
system. The remote control user bits may also be set from the serial port using command 8A. (See
section 4.9 below) When the user bits have been set from the serial port, the present state of all
parallel port pins except VITC enable and Bypass will be ignored. The parallel port will only become
the input source again if any one of the port pins changes state.
**Note: Some early versions of the 7721GPI-D only support outputs 1 to 5. These units can be
upgraded to support all six outputs. Contact Evertz customer service for information on how to upgrade
these units.
