c. Start the engine and keep it idling until engine
oil starts to seep from the engine oil check
bolt. If no engine oil comes out after one min-
ute, turn the engine off so that it will not seize.
d. Check the engine oil passages, the oil filter
cartridge and the oil pump for damage or
leakage.
Refer to "OIL PUMP" on page 5-61.
e. Start the engine after solving the problem(s)
and check the engine oil pressure again.
f. Tighten the engine oil check bolt to specifica-
tion.

15 Nm (1.5 m·kgf, 11 ft·lbf)
g. Install the right side cowling.
Refer to "GENERAL CHASSIS (2)" on page
4-5.

13.Reset the maintenance counter for the en-
gine oil.
Refer to "MULTI-FUNCTION METER UNIT"
on page 1-16.

MEASURING THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE

1. Check:
• Engine oil level
Below the minimum level mark → Add the
recommended engine oil to the proper level.
2. Start the engine, warm it up for several min-
utes, and then turn it off.

NOTICE
When the engine is cold, the engine oil will
have a higher viscosity, causing the engine
oil pressure to increase. Therefore, be sure
to measure the engine oil pressure after
warming up the engine.
3. Remove:
• Side cowling (right)
Refer to "GENERAL CHASSIS (2)" on page
4-5.
4. Remove:
• Main gallery bolt

WARNING
The engine, muffler and engine oil are ex-
tremely hot.
5. Install:
• Oil pressure gauge set "1"
• Oil pressure adapter B "2"

6. Measure:
• Engine oil pressure
(at the following conditions)
Out of specification → Adjust.
Oil pressure
30.0 kPa/1050 r/min at 100 °C
(4.4 psi/1050 r/min at 212 °F)
Engine oil pressure
Below specification
Above specification
7. Install:
• Main gallery bolt
Main gallery bolt
8 Nm (0.8 m·kgf, 5.8 ft·lbf)
8. Install:
• Side cowling (right)

4-5.

CHECKING THE COOLANT LEVEL

1. Stand the vehicle on a level surface.
TIP
• Place the vehicle on the centerstand.
• Make sure the vehicle is upright.
Possible causes
• Faulty oil pump
• Clogged oil filter
• Leaking oil passage
• Broken or damaged
oil seal
• Leaking oil passage
• Faulty oil filter
• Oil viscosity too high
