D.1
Introduction to WLAN Security System SNMP
The SNMP subsystem allows the WLAN Access Manager and WLAN Secure
Server devices to be managed via SNMP from a network management application
or platform such as HP OpenView. Initially, not all parameters in the devices will
be accessible via SNMP. In the SNMP subsystem, you can:
• Access a subset of standard MIB-II data as defined by RFC 1213.
• Identify the device via SNMP, including retrieval of the following parameters:
sysObjectID (representing device type), serial number, and hardware and
software revisions.
• View environmental aspects associated with the device, including fan status,
interface status, and temperature (subject to hardware and operating system
support).
• Receive asynchronous notifications when important events occur, such as fan
failures, over-temperature alarms, the device rebooting, and SNMP
authentication failures.
The primary benefit of supporting SNMP is that it provides a standard method
way of managing network devices. Administrators can perform network
management with an off-the-shelf platform such as HP OpenView or Aprisma
SPECTRUM. Using one of these systems, you can view WLAN Security System
devices displayed by a stylized icon on the platform map. In addition, you can
monitor devices by the network management platform alarm system and track
performance through the platform performance and report systems.
