Replacing belts/Checking the belt tension

To check the belt tension, apply a moderate pressure
with your thumb on the belt (between the belt pulleys
on the alternator and crankshaft).
The deflection (3) must be in position:
– A: between 8 and 12 mm
– B: between 5 and 8 mm
– C: between 7 and 11 mm

If the belt tension is not sufficient:
Loosen the fastening bolts (2)
that hold the alternator in place.
Use a prybar/lever and place it between the alternator
and engine block.
Push the alternator outwards to achieve
the required belt tension.
Tighten the bolts (2) holding the alternator
with the correct torque.

Rubber elements and fastening screws - Check

Check all rubber elements (1).
Replace all of the elements if more than 25% of them
on one side of the drum are cracked deeper than
10-15 mm (0.4-0.6 in).
Check using a knife blade or pointed object.
Check also that the screw fasteners (2) are tightened.
