Once the program nds the analyzer, the serial number is interrogated and the disk is searched
for any previous test results. If none are found, a message is displayed and you are then
allowed to enter any pertinent data regarding this new DU such as owner, technician, repair
order, comments etc. he test selection menu is then presented.
Test Selection Menu
he test selection menu can be divided into four main categories:
Eleven automated analyzer performance tests
One automated adjustment procedure
Four utility procedures
wo detector performance tests (HP 86200B or HP 86201B)
Data for each of the eleven performance tests is archived upon completion. No archive data is
stored for the one adjustment routine.
he four utility programs are described as follows:
1.

center for correction.
2. he
tep Attenuator Test
the mechanical (and therefore, electrical) integrity of the built-in attenuator (HP 8730A or
Option 1E1 units only). For each cycle, the attenuator card is switched in and out with each
resulting trace measured. Minimum and maximum excursions are then noted. he test is
performed at a low frequency and a high frequency. he number of cycles is selected by the
user. A minimum of twenty- ve is recommended. One hundred cycles will take about ve
to ten minutes depending upon computer speed. here is no pass/fail indication but trace
variances of more than 0.1 dB should warrant further investigation or increased monitoring
for signs of wear.
3.
Measure tep Attenuator
measure the actual insertion loss at 30 MHz for this device. his routine should only be used
as a last resort if no other method of obtaining data is available. Generally the device should
be measured using one of the following methods:
Sending the device to a calibration standards lab
Measuring the device with an HP 8753D with full two-port correction
Measuring the device with an HP 8902A Option 050
4.
Measure 20 dB Pad
Note
he listed uncertainties shown on the test results assume that one of these
three choices was used and

he detector perfomance tests consists of an absolute power accuracy test and a frequency
response test as described in the
hese tests are only for testing these two speci c detector models. Archiving of data is not
done for these tests.
