When enabled as an output, each channel also has the ability to generate a 1 µs pulse upon
command. An example application of this pulse is to use the EX1200 to externally trigger another
piece of test equipment. The specific operation of the pulse depends on the static level
programmed for that channel. When a channel is programmed with a static level of high, the pulse
will be low-going. When a channel is programmed with a static level of low, the pulse will be
high-going. Each pulse generation requires a separate function call.
For expanded and more automated operation, each DIO channel can be independently linked to
any of the EX1200's backplane trigger lines, allowing any trigger condition (such as an over-limit,
or measurement complete event) that can be asserted by a plugin-module or the integrated DMM
on those backplane lines to be exported to any of the DIO channels.
The electrical specifications for the digital I/O port are provided in Table 3-. Particular note should
be given to the V
voltage source, even through a resistance, could permanently damage the EX1200.
Trigger Bus
The EX1200 provides an compatible trigger bus connector set on the rear panel of the instrument.
Both connectors have the same pin assignments and are wired in parallel. For more information on
the Trigger Bus and creating an appropriate cable, please visit
LXI Standard Revision 1.2 and LXI Trigger Bus Cable and Terminator Specifications Rev 1.1.
For proper operation, each trigger bus connector must be populated with either a cable or a
termination. Since the two connectors per unit are in parallel, they are electrically equivalent with
respect to receiving the cable or termination. VTI Instruments P/N: 70-0322-000 provides two
