Operating the climate control systems

You can use the auxiliary heating to:
preheat the vehicle interior and defrost the
R
windows.
better start the engine in cold conditions.
R
heat up the coolant. This reduces engine
R
wear and saves fuel.
support the vehicle's heating system while
R
the engine is running and outside tempera-
tures are low.

WARNING
Fuels are highly flammable. Risk of fire and
explosion due to improper use of fuels!
Avoid fire, open flames, smoking and crea-
tion of sparks. Switch off the auxiliary heat-
ing before refuelling.

WARNING
Parts of the vehicle, e.g. the auxiliary hea-
ting's exhaust system, may become very hot
when the auxiliary heating system is
switched on.
Flammable materials, such as leaves, grass
or twigs, may ignite in the following situa-
tions.
If they come into contact with:
hot parts of the auxiliary heating's
R
exhaust system
the exhaust itself
R
There is a risk of fire.
Make sure that when the auxiliary heating
system is switched on:
hot parts of the vehicle do not come into
R
contact with flammable materials
the emissions from the auxiliary heating's
R
exhaust pipe can be released without
obstruction
the exhaust emissions do not come into
R
contact with flammable materials

DANGER
If you have preselected a switch-on time,
the auxiliary heating system switches on
automatically.
Toxic exhaust fumes may accumulate if
R
there is insufficient ventilation, carbon
monoxide in particular. This is the case in
enclosed spaces, for example. There is a
risk of fatal injuries.
There is a risk of fire and explosion if
R
there are highly flammable materials or
flammable materials nearby!
If you park the vehicle in these or similar
conditions, always deactivate the preselec-
ted switch-on times.

DANGER
If the exhaust pipe is blocked or sufficient
ventilation is not possible, toxic exhaust
fumes may enter the vehicle, especially car-
bon monoxide. This is the case, for example,
if the vehicle gets stuck in snow. There is a
risk of fatal injuries.
If you have to leave the engine or the auxili-
ary heating running, keep the exhaust pipe
and the area around the vehicle free of
snow. To guarantee a sufficient supply of
fresh air, open the roof hatch or a door on
the side of the vehicle away from the wind.

WARNING
You could burn yourself on the exhaust pipe
if the auxiliary heating system has been run-
ning. There is a risk of injury.
Let the exhaust pipe cool down before carry-
ing out work on the auxiliary heating system.
Depending on the operating conditions, a
small amount of smoke may be produced
when operating the auxiliary heating.

WARNING
If there is a small amount of smoke, monitor
the progress of smoke development.
If a greater amount of smoke, fuel odour or
unusual noises develop while operating the
auxiliary heating, this may be due to a
mechanical fault.
