Refuelling
128
Keep the doors and windows closed while
refuelling.
If you or others come into contact with fuel,
observe the following points:
Immediately rinse fuel off your skin with
R
soap and water.
If fuel comes into contact with your eyes,
R
rinse your eyes with clean water immedi-
ately. Consult a doctor without delay.
Consult a doctor without delay if you
R
swallow fuel. Do not induce vomiting.
Immediately change out of clothing that
R
has come into contact with fuel.
G
WARNING
Fuel is highly flammable. Improper handing
of fuel creates a risk of fire and explosion.
Avoid fire, naked flames, smoking and creat-
ing sparks under all circumstances. Switch
off the ignition and auxiliary heating before
carrying out work to the fuel system. Always
wear protective gloves.
G
WARNING
If you mix diesel fuel with petrol, the flash
point of this fuel mixture is lower than that
of pure diesel fuel. When the engine is run-
ning, components in the exhaust system
may overheat unnoticed. There is a risk of
fire.
Never refuel with petrol. Never add petrol to
diesel fuel.
Do not use petrol to refuel vehicles with a
!
diesel engine. Even small amounts of petrol
result in damage to the fuel system and
engine.
!
Do not switch on the ignition if you acci-
dentally refuel with the wrong fuel. Other-
wise, the fuel will enter the fuel lines. Notify
a qualified specialist workshop and have the
fuel tank and fuel lines drained completely.
!
Do not add any special fuel additives to
the diesel fuel.
Special fuel additives can lead to:
malfunctions
R
damage to the catalytic converter
R
engine damage

Environmental note
If fuels are handled improperly, they pose a
danger to persons and the environment. Do
not allow fuels to run into the sewage sys-
tem, the surface waters, the ground water or
into the ground.
Before filling the tank
X
Switch off the engine.
X
Apply the parking brake.
X
Switch off the auxiliary heating (
X
Turn the key back in the ignition lock as far
as it will go.
X
Observe the fuel grade (
!
If you are using drums or canisters to
refuel the vehicle, you should filter the fuel
before adding it.
This will prevent malfunctions in the fuel
system due to contaminated fuel.
i
Regularly check the fuel prefilter with
heated water separator for condensation.

is a water-soluble fluid for the
exhaust gas aftertreatment of diesel engines.
It is:

When opening the AdBlue
amounts of ammonia vapours may escape.
Ammonia vapours have a pungent smell and
are particularly irritable to skin, mucous mem-
