Jump-starting, tow-starting and towing away

Donor vehicle and vehicle being jump-
started: turn the key back fully in the igni-
tion lock.

Interrupt the voltage supply with the battery
isolator switch.

Unscrew the cover of jump-start socket :.

Connect a jump lead.

Donor vehicle: reconnect the power supply
(battery isolator switch in starting position).

Start the engine and let it run at a higher
speed.
X
Vehicle being jump-started: reconnect the
power supply (battery isolator switch in
starting position).
X
Start the engine and let it run at idling
speed.
X
Donor vehicle: switch off the engine and
turn the key back fully in the ignition lock.
X
Donor vehicle and vehicle being jump-
started: remove the jump lead.

Screw the cover back onto jump-start
socket :.
Manoeuvring/tow-starting and tow-
ing away
Towing device, front
Use the front coupling jaw for manoeuvring,
tow-starting and towing away.
Example: vehicle front end

Swing coupling pin : approximately 90°
forwards and pull it up and out.
X
Attach the towbar.
X
Push coupling pin : down through the eye-
let of the towing bar.
X
Swing coupling pin : approximately 90°
backwards and engage it in the locking
mechanism.
Front towing eyes
To tow the vehicle away, use upper towing
eyes : with an appropriate tow bar.
You can also use upper towing eyes : and
straps and chains with suitable fixtures for
recovering, lashing or tow-starting the vehicle.
Lifting the vehicle from the front and rear
simultaneously is not permitted. For permissi-
ble loads and all further information, see the
separate lashing instructions.
When the vehicle is being driven on public
roads, appropriate covers must be attached
above upper towing eyes : and the airlift
towing eyes.
Towing device, rear
Use the rear towing device for manoeuvring,
tow-starting and towing away.

WARNING
The towing device can only be loaded to a
limited degree. If you use the towing device
for towing a trailer, the trailer may be torn
off. You could lose the semitrailer as a
result. There is a risk of an accident.
Observe the maximum permitted load of the
towing device. Use the towing device for
manoeuvring, towing or for steering actua-
tion of semitrailers with positive steering.
