Useful information

These Operating Instructions describe all the
models and standard and optional equipment
of your vehicle that were available at the time
of going to print. Country-specific differences
are possible. Bear in mind that your vehicle
may not be equipped with all the functions
described. This also applies to safety-relevant
systems and functions.

Preparing for a journey
Visual and function check on the vehi-
cle exterior
Before you drive off, you should carry out the
following checks on the towing vehicle and the
trailer:
X
Lighting system: apply the parking brake.
X
Insert the key into the ignition lock.
X
Press the Ä switch.
The indicator lamp in the Ä switch lights
up and the lamp check is active. The parking
lamps, perimeter lamps, side marker lamps,
licence plate lamps and rear lamps light up
and remain lit. The dipped-beam headlamps,
main-beam headlamps, flashing headlamps,
daytime headlamps, rear foglamps, revers-
ing lamps, brake lamps, foglamps and work-
ing-area lamps are switched on/off in
sequence. This cycle is repeated 30 times.

Press the Ä switch again.

Release the parking brake.
The indicator lamp in the Ä switch goes
out and the lamp check is finished.

Replace faulty bulbs (
X
Make sure that the licence plate, vehicle
lighting, turn signal and brake lamps are not
dirty or damaged.
X
Contour markings: check the condition of
the contour markings at all attachments and
bodies.
X
Wheels and tyres: check the tyre pres-
sures and that the tyres and wheels are
secure and in good condition.
X
Check the tyres for sufficient tread depth.
When doing so, observe the country-specific
regulations regarding minimum tyre tread
depth.
X
Check the tyres and wheels for visible dam-
age and tears.
X
Loading and stowing: make sure that the
vehicle is loaded correctly.
X
Make sure that the side gates and exterior
flaps are locked securely and not damaged.
X
Snow and ice: in wintry conditions, remove
accumulated snow and ice from the tractor

Trailers: make sure that cables and
compressed-air lines are connected cor-

Check that the trailer coupling is locked and
secured correctly.
Observe the separate instructions issued by
the manufacturer for the operation, care
and maintenance of the trailer coupling.

Underride guard: choose a position that is
suitable for the planned use.
Ensure when doing this that it is locked cor-

Decoupling element of exhaust system:
check the decoupling element between the
engine and the exhaust pipe for damage,
such as cracks.
The decoupling element is a wear part and
must be checked regularly.
Traces of soot on the decoupling element
signify leakage.

5 vehicles: in the event of damage,
the decoupling element must be replaced
immediately.
