Turn hand pump : until it is completely
open.

Pump hand pump : by moving it up and
down (approx. 100 times) until the overflow
valve audibly opens.

Press the external engine start/engine stop

switch ( page 174) within approximately
five seconds and start the engine.

If the engine starts: leave the engine running
at an increased engine speed.
X
If the engine does not start: repeat the pro-
cedure.
X
Tighten the fuel tank filler cap.
Bleeding the fuel system with fuel pre-
filter on the chassis frame

Environmental note
Dispose of the water-fuel mixture in an envi-
ronmentally responsible manner.

Draining the fuel prefilter (using a hand
pump)
i If water has collected in inspection window
=, drain fuel prefilter : before bleeding.
Drain fuel prefilter : regularly.

Place a collector under drain plug ;.

Turn drain plug ; open.
X
Operate hand pump ? and collect the fuel/
water mixture.
X
Turn drain plug ; closed.
Bleeding using the hand pump of the fuel
prefilter on the chassis frame
X
Unscrew the fuel tank filler cap.
X
Place the collector underneath fuel prefil-
ter :.
X
Unscrew bleed screw A.
X
Push hand pump ? repeatedly until the fuel
escaping at bleed screw A is free of bub-
bles.
X
Tighten bleed screw A.
If there was no fuel in the fuel tank, press
i
hand pump ? again until there is noticea-
ble resistance.
In addition, bleed the main filter with the
Y
hand pump ( page 175).
X
Tighten the fuel tank filler cap.
X
Press and hold the Start/Stop button as far
as it will go, or turn the key to the start posi-
tion in the ignition lock and hold it. Do not
depress the accelerator pedal whilst doing
so.
i After 20 seconds, you must interrupt the
starting procedure and, if necessary, repeat
it after approximately one minute. After
three starting procedures wait for approx-
imately three minutes.

Once the engine starts normally, release the
Start/Stop button or the key in the ignition
lock and depress the accelerator pedal sev-
eral times.
The fuel system is completely bled.
