Checklist before fording
Example: adhesive label for fording depth

Assess the fording depth and characteristics
of the body of water before driving through
it. As a precaution, have a closer look on
foot.

Identify the maximum permissible water
depth for fording on fording capability

Switch off the auxiliary heating (

Wait for the auxiliary heating run-on phase
to end.

If there is no fording depth sticker : in
the vehicle, the fording depth is at the wheel
centre.
Rules for off-road driving

WARNING
If you drive over obstacles or in ruts, the
steering wheel may jerk out of your grip,
causing injury to your hands.
Always hold the steering wheel firmly with
both hands. When driving over obstacles,
you must expect steering forces to increase
briefly and suddenly.

Avoid frequently fording in dirty water up
to the maximum fording depth without
cleaning the vehicle in between. Observe
the notes on cleaning after driving off-road
or on construction sites. Otherwise assem-
blies, e.g. alternators, designed for arduous
conditions may be damaged.
Do not shift to neutral or disengage the clutch
when driving in mountainous terrain. You
could lose control of the vehicle while trying to
brake with the service brake. If your vehicle is
